History
One club, four names. It began in 1997 as an amateur side attached to Xəzər Universiteti — Azerbaijan's first private university — and turned professional around 1999. In 2004 it became İnter Bakı and won two national championships, in 2007-08 (on goal difference) and 2009-10. In October 2017 it was renamed Keşlə, winning two Azerbaijan Cups under that badge. Then in November 2021 came the announcement of a move out of the capital altogether; the rebrand to Şamaxı took formal effect on 6 April 2022, mid-season.
The relocation was not just a rename. A brand-new stadium was purpose-built in Shamakhi and opened by the President in November 2021 to give the club a real regional home — part of a wider policy of decentralising a Baku-heavy league.
In Europe
The deepest European CV in the bottom half of the league: 39 matches across the Champions League, Europa League, Conference League and Intertoto Cup, with 16 wins. As Inter Baku they went past Rabotnički on away goals in 2008-09 Champions League qualifying, and in 2010-11 were eliminated by Lech Poznań only on penalties after 1-1 on aggregate. Their 5-0 away win at Narva Trans in 2012 is cited as an Azerbaijani record away victory in European competition.

Starting as an amateur Khazar University side in 1997, it became Inter Baku and won two national titles within a decade — genuinely unusual origins for a champion club.

Xəzər Universiteti → İnter Bakı → Keşlə → Şamaxı. For two decades the club functioned almost as an administrative vehicle passed between backers, before finally being given to a region.
