The story
Known locally as Fırtınalar meydanı — the Arena of Storms. UEFA approved it for full internationals on 17 July 2009, and Azerbaijan played Finland here on 5 September 2009. It also staged group matches at the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. Its tenant, Khazar Lankaran, won the league in 2006-07 and the Azerbaijan Cup three times, was a member of the European Club Association, and knocked Rapid Wien out of the Europa League in 2011 — then walked away from senior football in the summer of 2016 to concentrate on its academy, leaving a 15,000-seat stadium without a top-flight club.
Not currently a Misli Premyer Liqası venue: no club from Lankaran plays in the top division. At 15,000 it would be the third-largest ground in the league if one did.
