The story
Opened on 10 April 2011 with AZAL PFK beating FK Baku 1-0, the Belarusian striker Gennady Bliznyuk scoring the first goal on the ground. UEFA had approved it for international matches two months earlier and gave it a two-star category rating. A second grandstand meant to lift capacity to 6,000 was announced and never built; the club that owned it — the airline side AZAL, later renamed Şüvəlan — has since left senior football.
Used as a training base during the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. Artificial surface. Capacity quoted as both 2,983 and a rounded 3,000.
